Calling All Healthcare Heroes: Let’s Rebuild Together!

The heart of Cacoon District beats with the unwavering love and dedication of Marjorie and Leary Walters. They are Jamaican-Canadian. Marjorie grew up in the heart of Cacoon District, while Leary hails from Spanish Town Jamaica. Their determination to bring about long-lasting positive change to the Cacoon neighborhood was inspired by their personal experience as well as their passion for Christ and others.

The COVID-19 pandemic ignited their desire to help their homeland. It was then they began sending barrels of food supplies to the Cacoon Community. Although the initiatives worked at the beginning, they eventually encountered a number of logistical issues with the food supply distribution. This caused a realization that short-term assistance was insufficient and that they needed to invest in more sustainable solutions, they realized that they required a dedicated area for community support, outreach and communual growth in spirituality.

This realization birthed Cacoon Assembly Centre 2025, a vision to create a place of worship with a multi-purpose centre that will be a beacon of hope and opportunity for the Cacoon District and it’s surrounding areas.

A New Challenge: Hurricane Melissa’s Devastation

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, our beloved Cacoon District and surrounding areas in Hanover have suffered severe damage. Many homes, farms, and community spaces have been destroyed or flooded. Families who were already struggling now face even greater hardship — loss of shelter, limited food access, and uncertainty about the future.

While our original mission remains strong, we must now urgently respond to this crisis. The Cacoon Assembly Centre will not only serve as a future beacon of hope but also as a disaster relief and rebuilding hub — a safe place for families to receive immediate aid, supplies, and long-term support as they rebuild their lives.

Impact on Hanover:

The Cacoon Assembly will be a transformative force in Hanover, creating a ripple effect of positive change. By providing essential services and resources, we will empower individuals and families to break the cycle of poverty while also creating a space with strong spiritual background for the community. We also plan to help the people in the community build a brighter future.

 

Progress Update and Need for Support:

We have already taken a significant step by securing the land and completed the foundation. We need your financial support to get the next phase of roofing and internal structural supplies.

• Empowering Education and Connectivity: Access to printing, faxing, and the internet will bridge the digital divide, empowering residents with vital resources for education, job seeking, and communication. We also plan to host summer camps for youth enrichment.
